Benefit will assist local woman

A benefit spaghetti dinner will be held June 1 for Lorene Wanner of Wishek, who is battling kidney disease. The dinner will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wishek.
Wanner and her husband, LeRoy, operated L & L Restaurant for several years. They've also become well-known throughout the region for preparing and catering broasted chicken and other food at various events.
Lorene Wanner has been forced since February to make three trips to Bismarck each week for kidney dialysis treatments.
I am not in a lot of pain, but the traveling is very tiring, she says. It really wears you down.
In addition to the treatments and the transportation expenses, Lorene is taking six different prescription medications.
Just one of these meds costs $500 for a 30-day supply, LeRoy says. The Medicare drug benefit helps, but it doesn't cover the entire amount. You would have to own a gold mine to keep up.
A free will offering will be accepted at the benefit dinner. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will provide supplemental funds via the Emmons/McIntosh county chapter. Thrivent is also taking donations to assist the Wanner family. They may be sent to Cathy Sayler at PO Box 761, Wishek, ND 58495.
